cashierA lot of students or people in the work force often need to go to a photocopy center (Kinkos, for exmaple), to get presentations/projects/personal work done in a short period of time. However, a lot of these places are a complete frenzy during the day and it’s often hard to get the attention you need. Once you factor in traffic, and parking, you end up wasting a lot of time on what could be efficient work time.

whiteboardWhether you are at work or home you’re probably a multi-tasker and need a system to track progress and prioritize: here’s the system I worked out based on years of working in book publishing.

I use a large, plain whiteboard as my monthly task canvas which is available for anyone on staff to see. In the margin I have color-coded Post-It notes and use a magic market to name the task: just name it at first such as “Annual Report for CEO”. The colors correspond to a general work area category. Green in “finance”, yellow is “manufacturing”, pink is “copywriting” and so forth. Nearly all Post-It notes start at the bottom of the whiteboard. Read the rest of this entry »
